An Early Quilt

This is one of my favorite quilts, and one of the first that I made. It is an Ohio Star, on a natural background. The colors are rich reds, forest greens, rusts and browns, golds and soothing blues. The best part of this quilt, though, is that the plain blocks are hand quilted. Back when I had time!

The quilting pattern is a feathered wreath.

There are little tiny blood stains on the back in several places. If I were to try this again, all sharp objects would have to be hidden! With four boys, when did I ever have time to do this?

Must have been back in the days when the boys were in bed early, and I stayed up late. Now,
the reverse is true!

And no, none of the college-bound kids got hand-quilted quilts for their dorms!

A Birthday Quilt to Remember

As The Wild One's birthday approaches, I've started thinking again about Aunt Julie and her marvelous quilts.

Julie Eliz stitched this one for TWO when she was a baby. The pattern is called Basket of Lillies. The POPrs Family came to visit for Christmas, and this was The Wild One's first Christmas gift from her Auntie Julie, the Quilting Queen.

This beautiful creation usually hangs on a dowell rod on the wall behind our bed. Today it's draped over Baba's Bench. I wouldn't leave it outside in this quaint setting for long, though. Too many of our feathered friends frequent the adjoining bird bath!

Friday Foto Fiesta Finish: A Quilt to Remember

In addition to being the POPrs Queen, Mom Extraordinaire and the owner of two rambunctious hounds, my SIL, Aunt Julie, is a quilter. You've seen quite a bit of her handiwork over here, most recently her Big Bear Creation.

In honor of Candid Carrie's Friday Foto Finish Fiesta, Julie Eliz wanted me to exhibit one of her creations from a few years ago. I love the simplicity of this schoolhouse design, don't you?
