Aunt Julie, she of Pop'rs fame, thinks she should send this photo to Welch's. This Baltimore Oriole hangs out at the feeder by Auntie J.'s family room window. And what's in the feeder? Why, grape jelly, of course! Aunt Julie explains.
"The male gets a beak-full of jelly and feeds the babies, who are sitting on a perch nearby, or sometimes even on the bowl or the holder. By now, they are as big as he is, and look quite capable of taking care of themselves!"
Just like Aunt Julie, Uncle Lynn and their little birdies--boys all (four of 'em!)--spoonfeeding the brood until they're ready to fly. Julie has second thoughts occasionally, though, about this kind of parenting strategy. "Sometimes I think it would be better to be the kind who pushes them out of the nest and lets nature take it’s course!"

Veggie: I thanked you on the White House quilt post, but just to reinforce: Thanks again for contributing to Take Another Look Thursday--you're a peach to pitch in! Also, please tell Aunt Julie that she's some kinda GREAT photog. Absolutely LOVE her snaps!
Who would have guessed? Grape jelly?
Thank you so much for taking the time to pop over, browse around and comment on my posts. I look forward to returning and looking around. :)
What a beautiful bird! Grape Jelly?I have never heard of that and I think it's cute.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and I am glad you can share the recipe! I am sure that I will be making alot of GF stuff, so have her stop by too!
Never thought of using grape jelly to feed the birds. lol. Very cute post. Hope you have a great day.
Thanks for coming to see me this morning. If you want to visit Tricia in Blog Person, you can visit her at Its my crazy live and I love it. You will have a great time over there. Also visit A handful of Life. Another fun site to see. You can get to each of them from my friends since I am not too good at linking people up.
I love the picture of the Oriole. I lived in the South for four years. I so enjoyed watching the birds we never see up here. I will have to try some jelly in one of my feeders. Does it have to be grape? (Smile) Strawberry is big in the PNW
Aunt Julie's photography is incredible too.
I have never heard of feeding birds jelly - how cool! I think I might just have to give that a whirl. Knowing my luck, I'll get a host of ants!
I'm not the first to say it: grape jelly?!? We don't have orioles here, but the cardinals are beautiful, though noisy. Thanks for stopping by!
That's so cool. Beautiful picture.
That's so interesting! I love Orioles, but have never been able to get them to our feeders. I'll have to try this!
Beautiful!!! I have never heard of using grape jelly as a bird food.
Cardinals will also eat grape jelly. My favorite customer is a chipmunk, though he is heavy and tends to tip the bowl. It's fun to watch the males feed the babies. You'll get your share of bees and ants too, of course. But I swear the orioles wait for me to replenish every morning, because by the time I pour my coffee, they are at the jelly. Cheap entertainment!
Pretty bird and great idea to feed them with jelly!
i love that! i had no idea birds ate jelly...i think she should submit it to welches...they always have cute commercials, and that's cute :)
thanks for the sweet note on my blog! i am so glad you visit and leave me notes! be sure to come back this weekend...its giveaway time!
I have a gray cockatiel that eats pizza and mac and cheese. I have never thought to give him grape jelly. Maybe he will like it!
Wow, would never have thought of grape jelly! That's a beautiful photo, btw.
Love this photo. We're Baltimore Orioles fans in this area!
