Welcome to Weekly Winners, brought to you by Lotus over at Sarcastic Mom. I'd like to share the beach with you today.
No, I don't live by the ocean, but I collect pieces of it and bring them back to my land-locked home. Here's a collection of whelks in various stages of "maturity," which grace one shelf of an old, beat-up, spray-painted, Salvation Army bookshelf that The Wild One fixed up for me on our back porch.
If I had a panoramic lens, I could shoot the whole shelf up close in one sitting. It's pretty neat. Or at least I think so!
Here's the inside of a turtle shell My Peeps found when they were wee ones. I don't know much about turtles, but doesn't that look like a backbone going up the middle?
I'm a fan of coral, but only if I don't step on it at the beach. I've got three different kinds here, and couldn't for the life of me tell you their names. I only know that the one on the far left is pretty sharp, the middle one no so much, and the one on the right is smooth as a skipping stone. ~Actor Christopher Reeve~

I love shells. I have quite a collection myself!
I *heart* the ocean, too. But as far as shells are concerned, I usually only find bits and pieces. Although I did find a "keeper" on the beach in NC last fall. We're talkin' shell shop quality! And BTW...don't forget today's Silly Sunday Sweepstakes. We're swimming with the "Big Fish" today!

I can understand why you'd want the ocean with you. Given the way winter seems to have a grip on us (seriously, a frost warning this late in the year?), I'm ready to move to the ocean!

I don't know why I don't care for shells, I think having spent so much time at the ocean made them a bit too familiar. I love the turtle shell though,very strange indeed...

What is it about shells that makes us want to take it with us? Can't figure it out, but I share the same habit of needing to take something with me every time I get the chance.
Those are so beautiful! I can see them mounted in a shadow box or a wall of photos of them on the wall. I'm a fan of coral, but of course not stepping on it!

I never get tired of looking at other people's treasures that they bring back from their travels and hearing their stories. Those are great shots! We are such beach people living in a land locked location too :) Every year we spend a week at the ocean - not enough for any of us but all we can do for now :) See you next week!

Wow, those are some mighty fine (and big) shells (and other sea things). What a great collection. I'm like Melissa, I never find any bigs things like this!
