Ode to Vanna White

The Pop'rs Cousins, along with Aunt Julie and Uncle Lynn, left the beach this weekend, headed for home. After an overnight stop at our house, they were on their way back to Northeastern Wisconsin. Their 14+ hour trip was made more comfortable, of course, thanks to Vanna White.

We're not talking about the "Wheel of Fortune" star here. We're talking about a big ol' white Econoline Conversion Van, with close to 260,000 miles on it. The Pop'rs Family bought Vanna in 1994, when the boys were little and Soccer Boy wasn't yet digging the sod out of his cleats. Vanna has traveled to DC, OBX, and Florida too many times to count. She's also always up for ski trips at the blink of an eye! The shot above shows Vanna in her younger years, with Shark Boy, Aunt Julie, Moses, Uncle Lynn and College Boy ready to embark on another Vanna Voyage.

Vanna is outfitted for the Traveling Life, you betcha. She has four sets of headphone jacks in the back for iPods and personal DVD players. "We laughed at first when we’d ask the boys a question and they would yell because they were wearing headphones," Aunt Julie says. "College Girl has a habit of getting carsick in Vanna, with the movies playing and all the junk we eat on trips, so she is banned. The dogs see us loading Vanna up for a trip and will jump in if we leave the door open. They know we are going away!" Both Trouble Elizabeth and Moses have made multiple trips to the beach in Florida in Vanna. "Trouble Elizabeth had to go on his first beach vacation when he had a broken leg, and needed physical therapy," Julie recalls.

Then there was the time when Auntie J. was seven months pregnant with Soccer Boy. "We got to Milwaukee and I made Lynn stop," Julie explains, wincing at the memory. "I felt closed in, uncomfortable and trapped (much like College Girl feels when she gets Vanna Sick), so he pulled over at a rest stop. He called my OB, who laughed when told I had only been on the road an hour-and-a-half! So I took some Dramamine and slept the rest of the trip. When we got to the hotel for the night, I was amazed at how good the boys had been. Lynn retorted that I could have slept through an atomic bomb!"

Vanna showed her advancing age during this last beach trip. Just outside Milwaukee, she blew a tire. Near Louisville, she overheated. And when Vanna and the Gang reached my neck of the woods, she had to go to the mechanic for a radiator problem.

Everyone made it back to Wisconsin safe and sound, though. But Uncle Lynn is thinking about retiring Vanna. He's got his eye on a successor--another white Econoline Conversion Van. Vanna White the Second, I suppose?

It sounds like "Vanna" has given you quite a few memories.

I'm glad you all made it back safe and sound.

I TOTALLY remember taking trips across the country with my parents in numerous vehicles packed to the brim and one thing or another stranded up in several cities.

I sooo remember that!

Thank you for hitting a memory chord for me!

You gotta love those family trips! I remember fitting 6 of us into a little Chev car, driving from northern Alberta, all the way down to northern Texas... I was the youngest at 9, so I had the unenviable seat in the middle up front, with a cushion protecting me from the E-brake - those were the days...

P.S. Thanks for entering my giveaway - good luck!

That is THE best name for a vehicle I've ever heard. Seriously!

Oh dear! Vanna seems to be wilting a little. Poor gal.

Thanks for stopping by! How funny about Vanna! I'll be back!

That's terrific; their kids will have memories to last a lifetime, and seeing the country as a family (with all of those comforts) makes the trip enjoyable for everyone. I'm glad they could pay you a visit. Northeast Wisconsin, hmmm? Maybe we're neighbors! Do they sell Pop'rs locally, too?

You better not let Vanna know you're looking for something new. She might get mad and pop a tire or overheat or something. :)

Sounds like memories alone won't keep her. Sigh. :)

I wish we had a Vanna White when we were traveling our vacations growing up. My sisters and I were crammed in the backseat of my parent's car. Boy those are some memories: "Don't touch me!" "You are crossing into my territory!"

That is the best name for a car, I agree with Lula. Although, when Uncle Lynn gets another white van, you could always call it Vanna Whiter!

So cute the van is "Vanna".
I love this post. It's so fun to hear about the trips in a car. It's true how the car is part of the memories!
Fun!

Looks like Vanna has been a lot of fun! Good old dependable Vanna.

I named my car Libby....Libby the Liberty...not real original I know! But, Libby's my girl....I try to keep her mileage low! She's gotta last me.

Makes me think of all the trips we made across the Alcan when the kiddos were younger. We had a 1970 Ford station wagon. It made about 6 trips I think. Good memories. I know they will miss Vanna. Maybe they can trade her in for something a little more PC (sic) like a Yugo?

Once upon a time I was the proud owner of a 17 passenger cargo van. Everyone who wanted to go on a trip was my new best friend. I loved my van but now days I really love my 38 MPG Honda but miss the happy memories of all those people riding together! Have a nice trip.

Just so everyone knows, Big Bear says Vanna White has at least another 260K in her - so she and all her great memories are not going anywhere! Bring on the grand-kids.

Uncle Lynn--you REALLY need to learn how to sign on to Google as yourself. The anonymous comment made me nervous! I believe that Vanna's got it in her--but do you guys have it in you?

Oh that's funny! I was alarmed to think that Vanna (the only woman my dad blatantly oogled) had passed away.
Still, it's very sad to hear of the demise of the great white Vanna van.

Still wondering...do they sell Pop'rs in stores somewhere??

Aunt Julie said...

4444 & everyone else: Unfortunately, Pop'rs are only available from Uncle Lynn at http://www.poprs.com -- he has high hopes of being on your local grocery store shelves someday!

Hello everyone!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For quite a long time, I make money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and I started with funny 500 bucks.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my blog to get additional info.

Good day, sun shines!
There have were times of troubles when I felt unhappy missing knowledge about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never thought that there weren't any need in large initial investment.
Nowadays, I feel good, I started to get real income.
It's all about how to select a correct companion who utilizes your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the profit with me.

You can ask, if there are such firms? I have to answer the truth, YES, there are. Please get to know about one of them:
